Intellectual property is declared and protected by the most countries of the world, and our state is not exception. Ukraine had ratified 19 international conventions, agreements and covenants, and also accepted more than 50 laws and sublegislative acts, settling intelectual property relations.

Sadly, but multitude of legislative documents doesn't solve the problems of intellectual property rights' violating, which are still burning on the territory of our country. Today copyright and patent rights' piracy flourishes in Ukraine, yet also in other post-Soviet countries. The evidences of it are street sale of unlicensed DVDs, free distribution of audio- and video-files in Internet, illegal use of PC programms, trademarks and inventions. And this is very small part of full violations' list.

So-called world standard of keeping intellectual property rights - Special 301 Report, prepared by USA trade representative, contains Priority watch list, which holds countries, where the level of such rights' protection absolutely doesn't correspond to the world's standards. On 2006 Ukraine was still presented there, just like some years before from the moment of first issue of the mentioned report.

Doubtless, for appropriate intellectual property rights' protection we need at first not the legislation's improvements, but the changes in social thinking, which can be possible due to systematic and purposeful education of the lawful consciousness. This and only this will solve not only consequences of the problem, but also its causes.
